About

Lucie Rie (1902–1995) was an Austrian-born British ceramicist whose refined vessels and experimental glazes changed British studio pottery. Trained in Vienna, she fled Nazi persecution for London in 1938 and rebuilt a practice in a compact urban studio. Her work makes discipline, material curiosity and quiet independence feel inseparable. This Companion helps learners reduce a problem to its form, test it through making and learn from each new beginning.

Lifespan: 1902–1995
