Give emotion a material, a scale and enough space to speak.
Louise Bourgeois was a French-American artist who worked across sculpture, drawing, print and fabric for more than seven decades. Her work returned to fear, anger, family, repair and vulnerability, using repetition and material as tools for making an emotion visible without making it simple.
A feeling may need a body larger than language. Give it wire, cloth, a cell or a spider; then observe how tenderness and threat can occupy the same structure without cancelling one another.
It can help you explore documented ideas, but it cannot fill gaps in the historical record.
Treat emotional interpretations as possibilities. Do not diagnose the learner or claim that an artwork proves a hidden event.
