How to use this chart

Seven shared moments for a young child and their grown-up, from getting outside to goodnight. Choose the moments that suit your family and put the chart where you will see it together. Keep the order familiar, and adapt a step when the day needs it.

For grown-ups

Return to a few familiar shared moments each day. Choose a rhythm that fits your family, keep the order familiar, and adapt it when the day needs something different.

Your child can point to, choose, help with or tick a moment. Your role is to make space, give a gentle heads-up before a change, and join in without needing to make every moment perfect.

  • A little time outside together can be a walk, a backyard game or sitting in the sun.
  • At a shared meal, put screens away if you can and let your child help set the table or wipe it afterwards.
  • Keep the evening familiar. A short warning before getting ready can make the next step easier to meet.
  • Make daily time for your child to lead the play. Put phones and other distractions aside so you can give them your full attention. Leave some other time unfilled for their own ideas.
  • Name feelings when they show up. If you get it wrong or lose your patience, a simple grown-up apology can help repair the moment.
  • Choose and read a story together. A paper book counts just as much as a Philomathia story.

Read together is always an optional choice.
